Gun Free Schools Report

Gun Free Schools Report

May 16, 2025 | Grants Management

Thankfully, gun incidents are rare; nonetheless, all charter districts that receive any federal funds must submit the Gun Free Report (PR6000) by June 30, 2025. This is the one case where you should not do it early. The reason being that an incident could happen after you submit it. The good news is, if you have no weapons incidents, the report is quick and easy to submit in eGrants!

Where is the report located?

The Gun Free Report (PR6000) is found in eGrants under the Compliance Report tab. The report will encompass incidents between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025. The report is very short and simple if you have had no incidents this year. You will simply answer Yes or No to this question:

Were any students found to have brought a firearm (as defined by Title 18 U.S.C., Section 921) to school? Include students even if expulsion was shortened or no penalty was imposed.

For the definition of a firearm (which is more broad than just guns), see this link: Firearm Definition Title 18 USC Section 921.

What if we did have a weapon incident?

If you answer Yes to the above question, it will open the campus level reports (PR6100). You will select the correct campus of the student offender and enter more detailed information about the incident. Keep in mind that incidents on any school property including athletic fields and school buses must be reported.

What about summer school?

If your summer school ends before June 30, you could wait until after to submit the report. However, since the likelihood of an event is very low, CSS generally recommends going ahead and submitting it after the regular year ends. If a summer school incident happens to occur, you can contact TEA to reopen it.

The CSS Federal Team helps our member schools complete all compliance reporting on time and accurately! We often prepare the reports so all you have to do is log on and submit!

Lastly, please be aware that no grant awards (NOGAs) for the 2025-26 school year will be released until the Gun Free Schools Report is complete!
