AskTED Data Updates
No one likes to miss important information, and here at CSS we know you like to stay in the loop! One of the main ways to get important messages from TEA is to make sure your campus data and contacts are up to date in AskTED, the online Texas Education Directory (TED). AskTED is the primary source used by TEA and other agencies to direct communications to the school’s administration and Board. TEA expects that school administrators keep AskTED updated with the most recent information in real time. AskTED includes both district and campus information. This spring, make it a top priority to check your AskTED data, including your grade spans, to make sure there are no holes in your loop!
How is AskTED used by other education agencies and organizations?
The information in AskTED is used in a variety of ways. TEA employees, school districts, and the general public use AskTED to:
• Find contact information and create email lists and/or mailing labels for Texas public schools, districts, and charter schools,
• Pre-populate certain documents and forms, such as the grant application documents in eGrants, and
• Determine who will receive important emails from the agency.
• Determine your annual TEA Risk Level.
How can I check the accuracy of my charter’s information in AskTED?
- From the top of the TEA home page, select the link to AskTED.
- From the AskTED page, select the link to Quick District Lookup
- Type your district name in the box indicated. Click “Search.” Review the resulting details for accuracy.
- For more detailed information, you can download additional reports. Select the “Reports and Directories” button. Then select “Download Principals, Superintendents, District and/or ESC Staff Data File.”
- Select the categories you wish to review and click “Download file.”
- When the file is downloaded, you can scroll down to find your school’s information.
- If you wish to further customize the reports, select the HELP button on the AskTED landing page. Then select “Search by (Customized Searches).”

The CSS Federal Team works with partner schools to assist with keeping their AskTED data accurate and up to date. We help sort through their AskTED system information and work with TEA Charter Division to get their changes made.
What information should be kept up to date?
Be sure that campus and district names, addresses, grade spans, and phone numbers are accurate. At the campus level, grade span information is often incorrect for charters as they open and add grades. Newer charters will need to update grade spans every year until they finish expansion.
Several positions are required by law to be entered in AskTED. Do not leave them blank!

Who updates AskTED for charter districts?
TEA’s Charter School Division updates contact information for charter schools and districts. This does not happen automatically, and you cannot change AskTED yourself. You must request any updates and changes. You can reach them by email at CharterAskTED@tea.texas.gov or by telephone at 512.463.9575. In addition, changes can be made using the online All-in-One Charter School Update Form. Be sure to follow up and check that your changes have been made in a timely manner. Keep documentation of when you submit changes.
