LASO Grant – Learning Acceleration Support Opportunities

LASO Grant – Learning Acceleration Support Opportunities

November 7, 2022 | Grants Management

Ready to “round up” some new funding? The latest release of post-COVID funding is called LASO (aka TCLAS II), and CSS is here to be your partner as we wrestle up all the dirt on this new grant that is due December 22, 2022. Preliminary training for LASO has already happened in October (don’t worry, recordings are available). Like TCLAS, the first part of applying will be responding to a Qualtrics survey that will open November 7, 2022 (due 12/22), and then, at a later date, the grant will be finalized in eGrants. Beware, because whoa Nelly is this grant a head scratcher! There are some parts you can’t apply for if you had TCLAS, and others that you can. Keep reading, and we’ll show you the ropes!

The CSS Federal and Finance teams will assist our clients with planning and preparation of the LASO grant to ensure understanding of program requirements.

What initiatives are included?

First of all, one major difference is that the LASO grant is competitive. Funding is not formula driven or guaranteed like ESSER and TCLAS were. TEA states that selection will be based on a mix of quantitative and qualitative data such as readiness for the program. The following chart lists the programs included in the grant and the number of awards that will be given.

**Please note: “In-kind” means that your LEA does not receive money. Rather, TEA provides products or services to your charter district.

In order to determine which initiatives are for you, please go to the LASO Webpage where you can find information about each initiative and videos produced by TEA that explain each program. The best course of action is to watch the LASO Overview, and then dive deeper into the initiatives for which you are eligible and have a need.

Training for each initiative will be held the week of November 14-18, 2022, and you can register on the LASO Webpage.

I received TCLAS. Can I apply?

Yes, except for the following initiatives:

PTECH – cannot apply if you received TCLAS decision 9a or 9b for PTECH

School Action Fund – cannot apply if you received the ESF Grant or TCLAS decision 10

See the “Eligibility” section on the LASO one-pager.

The link to the application was in an email sent to your Superintendent on Nov 7, 2022. If you need it sent again, click here to complete a request for application link. Remember, the grant part 1 is due 12/22/22. Part 1 will simply notify TEA which parts of LASO for which you are going to apply. Many of the initiatives will not start until 2023-24.  See the one-pager for start date info.
