Title II Special Data Collection Due January 9, 2026
It seems strange seeing 2026 in the title, but the New Year is upon us, and we are sure procrastination is not on your New Year’s resolution list! The topic for today is the Title II Special Data Collection that is required if you received Title II funds through the ESSA grant in the 2024-25 school year and did not transfer 100% of the Title II funds to another program under transferability/REAP. Yes, you are not mistaken, we did recently publish about a special data collection for Title IV that is due December 1. This is a double-whammy folks, and the Title II report is due January 9, 2026 – later than the Title IV one.
Too much reporting and not enough time? The federal team at CSS has the combined knowledge of both federal program requirements and day-to-day financial implementation to fully comprehend the Title II reporting requirements, and we relieve the burden for our partner schools!
On November 3, 2025, Superintendents received an email from the Smartsheets workapps system if their school system is required to submit the Title II report. The report is visible now in Smartsheets. It has its own unique square icon that is light pink. CSS advises all readers log on to Smartsheets and check your status.
What information is being reported by Jan 9?
The report is broken up into 4 sections, but other parts “open up” depending on your responses. Regardless, you will need data on the detailed expenses from Title II funds for the 2024-25 school year not including carry over.
The four main parts of the report include:
- School System and Staff Contact Information,
- Full – time Equivalents (FTEs) – you will not need to fill out this part as TEA is pulling the data from elsewhere,
- Percent of Title II funds budgeted – the percent that was budgeted for teachers versus administrators or other school leaders, and
- Use of Title II funds for class size reduction.
There are sections 5-12 that will open depending on your responses in each “use of funds” category. Regardless, you will need to know in detail how Title II funds were used in 2024-25. We will not list them all here, but you can see them in the training slides posted below. If you funded any professional development with Title II, you will need to know what it was about and who attended.
Is this report new? Why is it required?
Yes and no. You may recall a lengthy survey in the past administered by the USDE. The feds informed TEA last May that the USDE would no longer issue the survey, and that responsibility has been pushed to the states. TEA developed the special data collection in response to this action.
Where can I find more information?
TEA held training on the report on October 28, 2025. As of the publication date of this article, the recording was not yet posted on the Title II, Part A TEA website; however, the training slides are posted and are linked in below.

Last tip: When you get to the very end to the final certification step, be sure to check the box to send yourself a copy of the report!
Due Date: Jan 9, 2026
