The Open Meetings Act was adopted to help make governmental decisions accessible to the public. It requires meetings of governmental bodies to be open to the public, except during expressly authorized closed sessions. These meetings must be preceded by public notice of the time, place, and subject matter of the meeting. All Charter school board meetings are subject to the Open Meetings Act. Likewise, all board members must complete training on open meetings within their first 90 days of service. It is highly recommended that all administration be trained on the Open Meetings Act as well. At the completion of this session, attendees will leave with an expanded understanding the what it means to fall subject to the Open Meetings Act and how to operate in compliance.
