Inventory & Supply Management Online Course

Course Description

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires charter schools to maintain a listing of all capital assets purchased with state or federal funds. Property purchased or leased with funds received by a charter holder is considered public property for all purposes under state law. It is property of Texas, held in trust by the charter holder for the benefit of students at the open-enrollment charter school, and may only be used for purposes for which a school district may use district property. Schools must also ensure compliance with federal regulations, particularly regarding the tracking, maintenance, and disposal of assets acquired with federal funds.

This session will provide an overview of inventory management best practices, focusing on what must be inventoried based on charter-determined asset levels and additional items that may require tracking due to value or loss risk. Participants will learn how to implement an effective inventory system, including establishing policies, conducting physical audits, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements. The session will also explore the full life cycle of inventory, from acquisition to maintenance and proper disposition, ensuring schools remain financially accountable and audit-ready.
